Wlan-USB often needs some hacking under Linux, but there are some Manufacturer with like ASUS TP-LINK that offers a Linux Compatibility on some devices… Simple search on “Wlan-USB-Adapter Linux” will show you a lot of offers… I have two TP-Link usb wlan sticks both are working…but with some issues or a bad range…
TP-LINK TL-WN823N is working good in Range and without a lot of struggeling… almost plug and play… {but! over the time new Kernels and updates sometime it needs intervention}

I’ve got a cheap USB WiFi adapter from Tenda. It works great (out of the box) in Antergos (GNOME & KDE). Also worked on Mint 17/18, OpenSUSE 13 & LEAP, lubuntu, ubuntu, windows 7 & 10. -

I would advise for Linux model SL-1506N. It is quite cheap and catches a good signal at close distances. But if you read wifi extender reviews then I think you can find more suitable options for you, if this is still relevant. -
hardware always suck :) got a wifi adapter on package there stand works with linux, but in some update depend which kernel it hangs on logout lol or login :)
