• Configuring multimonitor setup using integrated graphics

    My situation is this: I have two monitors currently hooked up to the graphics card, and all is well.

    I also have a third monitor connected to the onboard, integrated graphics chip via HDMI. This works well on Windows, giving me in total 3 monitors.

    However, I can’t seem to figure out where to start to set it up in Antergos. I’m sure it’s just a matter of knowing to ask the right questions, so if anyone can direct me in the right direction, I will be very grateful.

    The monitor is registered atleast to some degree, as the command:

    $ cat /dev/urandom > /dev/fb1

    produces the expected output, namely writing random data to my third monitor. Now, if I could just figure out how to connect this third monitor, or maybe the framebuffer(?), to the xserver…

    As you can see, I am not even sure if that’s the right question to ask. Thanks in advance!

    I’d start installing and running lxrandr-gtk3

    It should show you all three monitors and their resolutions…

  • @karasu Thank you for the suggestion, however, the tool only shows two monitors - the two connected via the graphics card.

    It still does not detect the display (it is greyed out).

    I just want to emphasize, I am able to manipulate the framebuffer and see changes on the screen. It’s just a matter of getting it recognized by these tools / the xserver (or at least, that’s my understanding).

    It shows three disconnected screens. Two of them are actually disconnected, while the HDMI one should be connected.

    If I guess correctly, you have an Intel and (a nvidia?) graphic cards.

    You need to tell X to use the two graphic cards at the same time ;)

    Yes, you are absolutely on the right track! I had come across that link, but it didn’t much help me - it went right over my head. I didn’t understand too much of it.

    Well we can try to do some tests (hopefully somebody with more experience on this shows up… )

    Run this command, what do you get?:
    lspci|grep VGA

    Oh, if you have nvidia, which driver have you installed? nouveau or nvidia?

    Also, post full X log, it should be /var/log/Xorg.0.log (use paste2.org or something similar, as it surely will be a long file).
    cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log

    Oh, and kernel log too, you can get it with:
