• Managing GRUB in antergos

    I have prevously only used *buntu type operating systems and have learned a few terminal commands to install packages, updates etc. I have hesitated to try anything too different from *buntu distros.

    But I have recently heard antergos is a very good operating system, so I have downloaded latest ISO to give it a try. However I’m not sure about how to manage the grub menu. I currently dual boot several different Linux OS.

    Some of the grub commands I currently use in Linux Mint are:-

    $ sudo nano /etc/grub.d/40_custom

    … where I manually add a partition for OpenELEC which I use for streaming media and TV Shows etc

    menuentry "OpenELEC.tv" {
       set root=(hd0,14)
       linux /KERNEL boot=/dev/sda14 disk=/dev/sda13 quiet
    }

    … then I run:-

    $ sudo update-grub

    … and sometimes I use:-

    $ sudo grub-install /dev/sda

    … if I want to put a different Linux OS in charge of the GRUB MENU

    I understand that these commands may be quite different in antergos and wondered if someone could advise. Also point me to any good online tutorial where I could learn would be great.

  • Hi,

    update-grub is simply an ubuntu alias for grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

    Other commands should work the same way.

    This will be useful if you’re comming from Ubuntu:

    Thanks very much for reply and the link, your help is much appreciated.

    I decided to try the install but I hit a problem during the install process so I created a separate post…
