  • Hi,

I usually try to stay away from AMD, for historical reasons (bad support).

It seems that things are changing lately.

    Check these out:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xorg#ATI
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AMDGPU

Make sure you use a new kernel (4.7 at least).

  • I recently was acquired an hp 17z laptop with:
    CPU: AMD A10-8700P Radeon R6, 10 Compute Cores 4C+6G @ 1.8GHz and GPU: AMD/ATI

I have installed the open source drivers as I am an everyday user. Performance -wise I am happy, however, I have yet to get suspend to work properly( open lid and I get the black screen but machine wakes up). I have not tried to fix the suspend issue…yet. Also, at times ( rarely) upon booting up graphics do not display correctly and a reboot is needed.

  • I’m using AMD A4 7300, using steam native and mesa drivers i can normally play. If you look into mesa drivers site you’ll see they added support for AMD drivers (not sure if all of them) since 12th version.

Antergos (default OS) - WIN10 (abandoned)
    I3wm - Mate desktop
    AMD - A4 7300 Radeon graphics
    16 GB ram
    HD 1 TB
    Linux newbie since 06/2016

  • @karasu i had the same feeling always had much better luck with Nvidia but it seems AMD is really trying hard to develop some quality open source video drivers. guess ill see how it works soon.
