• GNOME icons go missing after restoring from lock screen or sleep.

Silly GNOME! If I lock the screen or send the system to sleep, upon returning I loose all icons bar the settings one like so …

I am struggling even to recognise anything in the logs. So far, this has my spider sense tingling.

(gnome-shell:3940): St-CRITICAL **: st_widget_get_theme_node called on the widget [0x2867850 ShellGenericContainer "dash"] which is not in the stage.

Can’t seem to find the same issue on the internet but it’s a bit of a tricky thing to search for; I don’t know what that drop-down thingy is called.

    Love and kisses,

    Andy

  • Not sure how I feel about the love and kisses, but here’s what I dug up…

I ran into the same problem when turning off dash-to-dock as I don’t use it. It then breaks the status menu buttons add-on. Now granted your situation may be different but I was able to solve it by doing as follows.

    In terminal enter the following:

    sudo systemctl disable lightdm
    sudo systemctl enable lightdm

Once you have done this manually hard reset your machine.
Everything showed back up on restart for me. If you continue to have the problem I would look into disabling then re-enabling the status menu buttons add-on in tweak tool.

Other info I found on the topic:
    https://forum.antergos.com/topic/4841/shutdown-button-gone-after-switching-from-lightdm-to-gdm/6

  • @linuxhelmet Ahhh, well I swapped lightdm out because it was hanging on login and I think that maybe this is when I started seeing icons vanishing.

  • Update: I have had some success with intalling >> https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/826/suspend-button/ but really I consider this to be a workaround. I found this information by visiting https://forum.antergos.com/topic/2860/buttons-disappearing-from-gnome-drop-down-menu-thingy and it seems as though the extension that comes with Antergos is having an issue.

  • @pixiesky
Are you using the default GNOME session ? this is the Wayland session and recently I had a similar problem with the icons in some programs (like GIMP).
Try the GNOME on Xorg session and see if the problem exists there.

    Thanks
