• Wont boot with GTX 970

    Arch wont boot with gtx 970 installed. But works fine with integrated graphis.

    I get the error code nouveau int failed -16

  • Could you give more details about your installation please?
    I just booted my brand new artengos machine with the same card.

    Cheers! :)

  • Please, just in case, install the lts kernel and try again:
    sudo pacman -S linux-lts linux-lts-headers

    Also, you can try to test the nomodeset kernel parameter (press ‘e’ in your grub menu, and where you find the “quiet” word add “nomodeset”, then press F10 to boot)

  • Fixed it by taking out my graphics card and running on integared graphics then i installed the Nvidia drivers and now it boots without problems.

    What i did to get it working

    Add this to your boot option in grub (Often in /etc/default/grub ) : systemd.unit=multi-user.target

    Open terminal and run as root ( it will warn about a conflict but just accept it) :
    pacman -Syy nvidia nvidia-utils nvidia-libgl
    pacman -Rccn xf86-video-nouveau

    Then turn off the coputer and install the 970, and it sould boot as normal.

  • @talperud hey I was having the same problem as you with my gtx 970 and did what you suggested but when I type in pacman -Rccn xf86-video-nouveau it gives an error that the target not found: xf86-video-nouveau
    Please help

  • @chahalamit009 then you do not need to uninstall xf86-video-nouveau i think the driver is also inside the kernel… what you need to check is if you have nouveau under modules inside /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
    check with:

    cat /etc/mkinitcpio.conf

    if the line: MODULES=""
    looks like this :

    or if you are lazy ;) install Antergos nvidia-installer and run it:

    $ sudo pacman -S nvidia-installer
    nvidia-installer -t

    (to see if it get errors)
    if all seems good install nvidia driver :

    $ sudo nvidia-installer
