• Delete sda1

    Hey hello…

With startup i see that it is failed to active swap on dev/sda1.
    Whats wrong with sda1?

I did a normal install with CLI. Boot on sda1 root on sda2 and swap on sda3. Looks like the partition are different now.
Root is now sda5 and home is sda6 and swap is sda4.

Is this correct? What about the error from sda1?

  • Hi,

There must be an error in your /etc/fstab telling the OS to use /dev/sda1 as swap.

Could you post here your /etc/fstab file?

  • This is from etc/fstab:

    Thanks

  • Hi,

Well, I’m lost here. It seems you have /dev/sda4 as swap, so it should be ok.

Can you run this command just to be sure that your disks uuid’s are ok?

    ls -l /dev/disk/by-uuid

  • This is what i have:

    $ ls -l /dev/disk/by-uuid
    totaal 0

  • Hi,

    I can’t find what’s wrong.

By the way, there’s a mistake in this line:

    UUID=46c3484e-f12c-4142-aff8-47be0024c67b swap swap defaults 0 0

    Should read:

    UUID=46c3484e-f12c-4142-aff8-47be0024c67b none swap defaults 0 0

  • I just did twice a re install today.
I didnt feel okay about the error to active swap on dev/sda1.

So both install today i got the error now on dev.sda4.
I leave it because i don’t know what to do and i comes back again.

  • Hi Michael…

You did format the partition to a Linux Swap partition, right?

To be sure, I would go into gparted and double check the partition – in this case you said, sda4

Right click on it and format it again to linux-swap.

Then try to turn it on with:

    swapon /dev/sda4

You shouldn’t see any errors, nor even any messages. If you try the swapon command again, it should say:

swapon: /dev/sda4: swapon failed: Device or resource busy

since it is already ON. You can also check to see if it is on in gparted.

To turn it off, simply run:

    swapoff /dev/sda4

or you can turn it off in gparted.

My guess is that it was never formatted properly in the first place. If you do reformat it, you will need to get the new UUID for it and place it into fstab.

All the best, and I will pray that God will guide your steps and your actions to help you, and for you to see His love for you even in this.

Thanks Manna to point me that way. Unfortunately it was already format correctly. Maybe i will re-install Antergos again to see if all steps where correctly done.

    Thanks for your help Manna

  • As always, you are most welcome Michael.

Hope it works well for you and your needs.

  • Hey hello Lotologs…Nice to get a reply from you.
You are right. The system i have is not UEFI (Secure Boot) capable.
For me its also strange to get this partition layout.
What can i do? I just follow the instructions thats all with the installer. Do i do something wrong?

Did you use Cnchi or CLI for you installation? I’m assuming you used the CLI because we would have noticed this in our Cnchi testing. Try to install using Cnchi. Both the automatic and advanced modes have been working without issue lately. If you plan to use encryption, you will have to use automatic mode (fyi). Let me know if you are able to successfully complete installation with proper partition layouts and functioning grub (I don’t anticipate that you will have any problems)

    Cheers!

  • I wish i could install by CnChi. I can see there that the partition are correct for me then.
The only problem is that i can’t install by CnChi. Believe me i tried it more then twenty times in maybe a month now. I always get the same error.

    Antergos Installer-Error
Traceback (most recent call last) :
    File "/usr/share/cnchi/src/pacman/pac.py",line 109,in do\_refresh db.update (force=False)
    alpm.error: unable to update database, pm\_errno 0(onverwachte fout) : do\_refresh in usr/share/cnchi/src/pacman/pac. py:104

It will pop up by installing with refreshing multilib.db
I will try it later again. I remember it was something also with the mirrorlist.

  • I just install by CnChi. I changed the mirrorlist. Its perfect again for me.
I got a better partition now.

    Disk /dev/sda: 465,8 GiB, 500107862016 bytes, 976773168 sectors
    Eenheid: sectoren van 1 \* 512 = 512 bytes

    In-/uitvoergrootte (minimaal/optimaal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes

    /dev/sda3 3500032 976773119 486636544 83 Linux

Thats looks much better. Maybe the swap is wrong with id. Its here 83. Should start with 82? What do you think?

    Thanks anyway

  • Yep, Michael, it is looking better – praise God! You simply didn’t select Swap for that partition.

You can now change it though with gparted, and set it up in fstab with the proper UUID.

You can easily test it swaon and swapoff as I showed you before!

I continue to pray for you Michael.

  • I’m glad to hear Cnchi performed well for you. We recently did some work on the way in which mirrors are chosen in hopes to perform better in cases like yours. Looks like it is at least a little better so thats good!
