• Zfs install option in installer

    Hey firstly thanks

Been an Arch user for about a year, love it, but the install, even though you get used to it is nice to have automated and have a live install disk to use. So great to try Antergos.

I’ve actually switched/tried recently to PCBSD, which is great but has its own problems (mostly me not understanding it all) but some with older versions of apps… but the biggest draw was zfs and the snapshotting etc. I’ve tried creating an arch install image with zfs so I could install root on zfs but just couldn’t get it to work (YET). PCBSD allows easy installation direct with root partition on zfs if that were possible on Arch easily I’d be so happy.

Just an idea, surely more work than I can imagined…

But thanks for the great distro so far

  • Welcome to Antergos

    Cheers!

  • Great… Anyone with any sense I think sees the advantages of zfs, something new to learn, but great advance etc… So I’d kind of thought someone clever would be thinking about this.

Will be following along and test etc, as I still like my Arch over FreeBsd, but I’m sure mostly coz I know Arch better…

  • Just thought I’d add… I’ve finally gotten zfs on Arch root installed on a virtualBox machine… now playing with it and tinkering.

Has anyone seen beadm on freebsd… [http://blog.petroskoutoupis.com/?p=164][0]">[http://blog.petroskoutoupis.com/?p=164][1] search down for beadm for a bit of a descriptiong…

Wondering if something like that, or that can be used… will tinker

  • great, antergos with zfs will be very nice

  • Have you tried btrfs? It isn’t quite as feature rich as ZFS, but you may like it. I don’t think its as well suited for something like a NAS (though I haven’t tried) it does seem as if its more reasonable for use on a Linux desktop or workstation computer due to greater flexibility and being being built into the kernel.

It also, from what I’ve read, doesn’t nuke your entire partition if a checksum is misscomputed (I have non-ecc memory so this is a potential issue for me).
