THE PULSE BONES CONNECTED TO THE ... HEADPHONES!

I’ll start with the usual “I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I DID”. Because I litereally have zero clue what could have caused this issue…

All audio is being routed through my headphone jack now. To clarify, if I play a song, I can only hear it through my computers speakers, and ONLY if I select “headphones”. If I select HDMI out, no sound, if I select, internal speakers, no sound. But, I can see the lines in the volume range moving up and down (or left and right on pavucontrol). All modules are there, and I can select and move the volumes, but the only way I hear sound, is through my internal speakers, when I select “headphones” as the default output. If I plug in my headphones…I hear the audio through the headphones.

    I’ve already tried the following:

uninstalling and reinstalling (all one at a time)
    -pulseaudio
    -pulseaudio-alsa
    -alsa-lib
    -pavucontrol
    -alsamixer

I tried deleting and replacing the following files
    asound.conf
    .asoundrf
    everything in my /.config/pulse folder
    alsa.conf

I followed the directions on soundforges “the Perfect Pulse Audio Setup” and added all the things I needed to no avail. I’ve ready forums and linux sites for about 7 hours now and I can’t, for the life of me, figure out what I did. The only change to my computer has been the installation of conky and conky manager. Both don’t even have audio settings. And, last but not least, here are my stats

I was able to fix it. I’m going to post step by step instructions.

    1. Turn off your computer
    2. Go walk around a strip mall
    3. smoke about 3 or 4 cigarrettes
    4. turn the computer back on after about an hour
    5. play a skrillex song on VLC player

That is EXACTLY what I did, and now it’s working again. I know this was supposed to be a learning experience, but many times Linux is like a woman, in that when you find yourself frustrated because you don’t understand her sudden change in behavior, just leave the house and come back an hour later.
