• Sytemd-journald fullfill my RAM

    Hello

The systemd-Journal fills my ram to the max, then i logged automaticly out of mate and must restart my laptop.

my Cpu usage is between 30% and 40% in idle.

    by Journalctl comes:

    anyone can help me?

    AMD cpu
    SSD
    8GB Ram

  • It is not suposed to use RAM only Hard disk space.
Find out how much space it is using with

    journalctl --disk-usage

    And then clean it with

    sudo journalctl --vacuum-size=250M

  • hello

i can clean my it but my problem with systemd-journal in taskmanager is not solved.

    only 1,7GB was used

  • My systemd-journald is only using 570 Kb ram. What Desktop environment are you using and what version of systemd are you using.

    ⋊> ~ journalctl --version 16:57:28
    systemd 229
    +PAM -AUDIT -SELINUX -IMA -APPARMOR +SMACK -SYSVINIT +UTMP +LIBCRYPTSETUP +GCRYPT +GNUTLS +ACL +XZ +LZ4 +SECCOMP +BLKID +ELFUTILS +KMOD +IDN

I guess as a last resort you can stop it or disable it completely.
To stop it running right after you boot use

    sudo systemctl stop systemd-journald

  • [[email protected] ~]$ journalctl --version
    systemd 229
    +PAM -AUDIT -SELINUX -IMA -APPARMOR +SMACK -SYSVINIT +UTMP +LIBCRYPTSETUP +GCRYPT +GNUTLS +ACL +XZ +LZ4 +SECCOMP +BLKID +ELFUTILS +KMOD +IDN

but systemd-journal is in my taskmanager uop too 200MB then closed and start again and my ram is a few mins later full all 8GB

my DE is at the moment xfce but with mate i have the same problem

  • @anika200 i try the comand to stop systemd-journald but ist is still in taskmanager

[[email protected] ~]$ sudo systemctl stop systemd-journald
    [sudo] Passwort für shuji:
Warning: Stopping systemd-journald.service, but it can still be activated by:
    systemd-journald-dev-log.socket
    systemd-journald.socket

  • I stopped all three of those processes and it has disappeared from running processes. You still need a proper solution though and at the moment I have not a clue of what could be causing your issue.

  • @anika200 ok but thanks :)

  • This post is deleted!
  • I have a New info, after my RAM is full the laptop shut down and show.

  • Yep, thats a kernel panic. It could be software related or it could be your hardware.
My first thing in this case would be to make sure all my fans were working and temps are under control and then go from there.
Can you use this laptop via a live Antergos usb drive for many hours and everything is OK?
Memory modules can go bad and cause crazy things to happen, power source is always suspect too.

Sounds like you have kinda complicated install with xfce and mate? Maybe something has gone haywire there.

  • @anika200 OK
With live stick i have same issue
    CPU temp 51,5C
Systemd-journald still in taskmanager and fill the RAM to the max.
I have instal antergos in many Computer without issue in my laptop too, but since 2 days i have this issue.

Tomorrow i try New RAM and New hdd

  • So i test a few arch distros, all have the same issue…

Debian works fine without the systemd-journald issue …

    I’m really confused now, it’s a Software Problem and i didn’t find it…
