• Very slow shutdown/reboot

From the time I made the big recent (2d ago) update - I guess - I’m suffering from a very slow shutdown/reboot (blocked on a black empty screen), while the start is, as usual, very fast (SSD).
    Could be a systemd misconfiguration/bug?
If any help, my “.xsession-errors” file (got with sudo journalctl -b -0 > /tmp/journal) is:

  • Same here, It is consistently slow (~2 mim) on shutdown on one install and intermittent on another.

  • Yes. And I have on the same ssd Netrunner 17 and Windows 10 and they are both so fast in shutting down that I have no time to count.
Hope an advanced user gives us a hand ✋

  • Downgrade systemd to 228.

Download it from ALA (Arch Linux Archive). The package is found here.

    Install downloaded package with pacman:

    sudo pacman -U /path/to/pacakge/systemd-228-4-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

Uncomment IgnorePkg line in /etc/pacman.conf and add systemd to it:

    IgnorePkg = systemd

It will keep systemd at 228 version and will probably keep the system safe againdt any Poettering’s damages to Linux (systemd, pulseaudio, confd).

    Regards.

  • @just

Too add to this remove the quiet parameter in /etc/default/grub to see the debug on shutdown/startup.

  • Please @Wyn, could you explain me bette the “remove the quiet” from grub? Then, where do I find the log? Thank you

  • @fabio When you open /etc/default/grub with nano (sudo nano /etc/default/grub) you will see “GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT”, it’s near the top… third or forth line. After the UUID it will have a space then the word “quiet”. Remove the quiet and the extra space, save it then run sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg to rebuild grub. Then when you shutdown and boot up it will show the debug that was previously hidden.

I don’t see a GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT, should I remove the “quiet” close of the entry Antergos?

  • @fabio

    Oh Sorry! It’s /etc/default/grub not /boot/grub/grub.cfg !!!

    sudo nano /etc/default/grub

The grub-mkconfig command is still correct :).

  • you’re welcome ;)
And the update of the grub you have it with

    # grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

:medal: Anyway I did it, but where do I find the log of the shutdown?

  • @fabio Reboot ;).

  • I did it, many operations fast (unmounting etc.), then it blocks for a long time on
"OK Stopped Session c1 of user fabio"
then starts over very fast (so that I can’t read the messages) and reboot

There’s the reason it’s stalling on shutdown.

I found the problem also posted on Arch with a solution here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=209434

    :+1: .

  • Oh my! Quite difficult :unamused:
So, I should run in the console

    ln -s /dev/null /etc/sysctl.d/50-coredump.conf

But, what if one day I want to reverse the command?

By the way, I have no chrome nor chromium, just vivaldi, that is quite impressive!
    Could be that?
