• Failed to Load Kernel Modules on startup (on my two Antergos PC)

I´m having this message at boot on my two machines after the same update. Virtualbox running OK in both PC.

    systemd-modules-load.service - Load Kernel Modules

This output is from my Dell with LTS Kernel. My other PC (with the “normal” Kernel) is having the same issue.

    What can i do?

  • To be honest, I am just learning according to your feedback :+1: My practice is to search Google, a practice which seldom fails. The closest issue to yours is here (answers your question about uninstalling your 2 failed files…
    https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=3384.0
and also using pamac here (in the same thread as before)
    https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=3384.0

There is a lot more interesting literature here, if you want more scrutiny :cold_sweat:

Personally, I would experiment with what is suggested in the Manjaro forum and I do hope somebody else in here really knows more than me…

    Cheers!

***Are you using Openbox by any chance? Just curious because they talked about it…

  • @anarch No, no, i´m using Mate on this Dell, and Gnome on the other. Openbox only in the Puppy Linux.

I guess i have to add or uninstall something about the guest additions of virtualbox. Hope @karasu have a clue!

  • Did you have a virtualbox before that you unistalled for a reason?

  • From what i sent you, I can see that the problem is pretty much the same as yours

    sudo /usr/lib/systemd/systemd-modules-load

Failed to insert 'vboxsf': No such device

    The pamac way was this…

"I used to get the kernel loading failure. It took ages to work out why, but after investigation found it was due to virtualbox files that I did not need.
I fixed it by in Pamac manager removing

    1. Linux virtualbox guest modules
    2. virtualbox guest utils.
I am using a PC, so I do not use virtualbox at all. I got that kernel module failure as well which does not happen when the virtualbox stuff is removed. Just search for virtualbox in Pamac manager and you will see the two files that need removing".

  • Thank you @anarch!!! i only have to uninstall the guest additions, now called guest dkms, like the way you showed to me

    sudo pacman -Rsn virtualbox-guest-dkms

    And now:

    systemd-modules-load.service - Load Kernel Modules

And no, i don´t uninstalled or reinstalled the virtualbox before. :)

  • Curious, in the other PC (A Lenovo), i have to do first

    sudo pacman -Rsn virtualbox-guest-utils

    And later

    sudo pacman -Rsn virtualbox-guest-dkms

Anyway, it is fixed here as well :)
