• Troubleshooting Shadow Service Error

Cross posting from the G+ group.

I need help clearing an error message. I had messed with Tor for a short time and uninstalled it. Now on boot, I see this error message. The system still boots up and works, but I don’t like to leave errors…

Could have sworn I went through and removed references to Tor in some password file a week or so ago, but apparently I am missing something and need some help.

    Thanks

  • I have gone through /etc/passwd and removed the last line that contained references to Tor, and it seems I still have a 50/50 shot of this message showing during bootup.

  • @Myk-Robinson

Run sudo grpck then sudo pwck. Then restart.

  • Thank you!

  • @Wyn the problem persists and I am no longer sure why.

I have verified /etc/passwd and etc/gshadow and no trace of tor exists in either file.

Running sudo grpck asks me if I want to create the group tor

Running sudo pwck yields no results

    And shadow service status shows:

[email protected] ~]$ systemctl status shadow.service
    ● shadow.service - Verify integrity of password and group files
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/shadow.service; static; vendor preset

    Mar 29 06:22:03 archGnome systemd[1]: shadow.service: Failed with result 'exit-c

Not sure what my next step should be.

    Thanks
