• Not able to install after 5 attempts.

    Hi,
I am trying to install Antergos xfce from yesterday. After downloading all packages, it gives error and stop.

In my last attempt I started installation from command prompt and collected some output which says.

  • Which features did you select?

  • Apart from default selection(bluetooth, printing supprt etc), I selected only AUR.

  • A couple of issues come to mind.
First one reason I can think of is that the more packages an installer has to download, then the greater the probability will exist that a package is going to fail in downloading.
Most especially with a slower internet (if that is what you have).
This is because there are either far too many connection timeouts or because of some repeatedly corrupted downloads happening…

SOLUTION: Try using a flash drive (USB) rather than a CD (if that is what you are not using).

  • I am using USB flash drive and the installation has failed 5 times. I can post full last output of installer if that can help. Yes I have slow internet.

  • @cb9 Please do. I’ll check of any package names were changed on the Arch repo and if cnchi was updated.

  • Sorry I restarted my laptop to try once more and lost those logs. But again it gave me same error on my 6th attempt. Note that I downloaded this iso a week ago and it was full iso 1.6 GB ( not minimum ) Unfortunately this time I forgot to start from terminal. Anyway thanks for help. I am not sure if I am facing this problem because of slow internet or something is wrong. Recently I updated my brother’s laptop who has Antergos Openbox and he did not update for more than 1 and half years. It was more than 900 MB update and it succeeded in first attempt. No package was corrupt. Anyway thanks for help. I do not have spare laptop for use so I am recovering CentOS using super grub disk so that I will have something to use and probably try to install Antergos again in next weekend or when I get time.
    Thanks again.

  • If there is any way that you could post the /tmp/cnchi.log

Am wondering that at the process of you inputing your username and password during install that you
pacman -Syy to force update of mirrors ( I do not know if this will work but it’s only a suggestion that I saw placed elsewhere here on these forums).

Also, please read @karasu post on a possible solution for this. Link is here: https://forum.antergos.com/topic/2507/installing-antergos-and-it-stalls-downloading-packages/11

  • Having the same issue here with ISO created last month, then I downloaded minimal install and created another ISO and no go. My downloads are done in good speed and all installation goes well till the creation of boot where it gives the same error.

What Antergos ISOs are you referring to?

Are they antergos-2016.03.20-x85_64.iso, checked with antergos–2016.03.20-x86_x64.iso.md5 hashsum or antergos-minimal-2016.03.20-x85_64.iso, checked with antergos-minimal-2016.03.20-x85_64.iso.md5 hash or older ones?

Were they have been downloaded directly or by using torrents (antergos-2016.03.20-x86_64.iso.torrent or antergos-minimal-2016.03.20-x86_64.iso.torrent) ?

. My downloads are done in good speed and all installation goes well till the creation of boot where it gives the same error.

Antergos ISOs are not very large. May be downloaded and copied to LiveUSB, LiveCD, LiveDVD quickly.

But Antergos checks and tries to install the most recent Arch configuration. It could take some time. Please, do not confuse Antergos ISOs download times with Arch mirrors access.

    Regards.

By download I meant mirror access during install and not ISO download.

  • I am sorry to say installation of Antergos never went smooth for me. After 6 attempts if it’s giving same error then it’s not a good news. Right now I am downloading Manjaro. I always prefer distro based on Arch repositories but I don’t have option because Arch instillation is tedious and Antergos installation always had problems most of the time. :( Though I respect the work guys are doing, but what is use of having a good distro which gives lot of problems in installation. I remember when last time Antergos was released, that time also I faced problems and finally I gave up and Installed Archbang. The major problem I think is it download all the packages during installation. I think if it manages to install basic system from iso and then download new packages when user update system, then it will be fine for most of people. Also after coming to know that Linux Mint was attacked by hackers http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2994 , it has become very necessary to verify ISO file before installing.

  • It happens occasionally and in past Antergos team has always fixed these issues promptly. I have done countless Antergos installs with no issues. With Antergos you get pure Arch which you don’t with Manjaro.

  • I know, this is why I always preferred Antergos over Manjaro. But now I am pretty sure there was some bug in ISO I downloaded. I always used Openbox, but this time I wanted to try XFCE but since Sunday I tried without success. I had two option, download new Antergos ISO again and try or try Manjaro though it is not pure Arch. I chose Manjaro because I don’t have spare laptop if Antergos installation fails again. I do have respect for the work you guys doing but I am helpless this time.

  • As I thought, server side issue, all fixed now and both XFCE and GNOME installed fine.

  • I tried 7th attempt 3 days back with antergos-2016.03.20-x86_64.iso for KDE desktop and got same error. Now I am back to Archbang and Chakra on seperate partitions.

Problem is even error messages are not descriptive. So have no clue whatsoever why installation was failing at same stage.

  • Try it now, works fine.

  • Will try coming Sunday.
