• Simple Scan not recognizing scanner

I have an HP Deskjet 2540 installed. Printing to it works fine, however, simple scan (or any other app for that matter) does not see the all-in-one, at all; should I be installing the scanner driver separately? Thanks, Greg

  • have you done all according to this Arch Wiki page:

    and also check here:
to see if your device is supported. If it is fairly new, I can’t see why not.

check there first. If yes, I’ll try to help as far as I am knowledgabley able to.

Before you install any packages, check to see if you have those packages first. Not necessary to re-install. Do a query check with pacman pacman -Qi sane

  • @Modisc The scanner works with xsane, but is not recognized with simple scan. I went through the wiki, and everything appears to be fine. Thanks for your suggestions!

  • Again, thanks for the help! Since I can use the scanner, even if not with my favourite app, I don’t want to waste anyones bandwidth and cycles on this. Greg

  • @Ogre
It’s no waste of bandwidth at all. If you need some help with things, this is the place to post for it.
So your saying that the scanner works with xsane, just not with the other method as previously mentioned?
    Is this correct?
Regardless, if you got it working as per your particulars, that’s wonderful. Good news then.

  • I can scan, which is something I need to do, so that is a good thing! Why one app recognizes the scanner, and another doesn’t, bothers me from my Ogre geek perspective, and because I just don’t like it when I can’t get something working!!?! I will fiddle around with this, and hopefully post the resolution! Appreciate your positive response and support! As I have said elsewhere, this is one of the best forums I have been on (and I have been on a lot of them over the last 30+ years); you are one of the reasons for that!! Thanks!
