• Change keyboard layout turned messy

    Hey guys!
    First off amazing distro!

I just bought a new keyboard, which is in French, My old keyboard layout was in US.
Ive gone into the locale.gen file, loaded them and rebooted.
Now when I login, lightdm doesnt show any writing, just a blank box. ctrl + alt F7 I login and the terminal is with the correct layout. I disable lightdm and enable gdm. That works fine and I can login. But when I do, my keyboard is back into US.
I cant quite figure out what Im missing, what Ive done wrong or overlooked.
    Also Im using openbox.

    Any help is hugely aprechiated.

  • Okay, so I got my login screen back, lightdm and it works.

I can change the system keyboard layout with setxkbmap -layout fr but its gone after reboot.
    Also:
    localectl
    System Locale: LANG=fr_FR.ISO-8859-1
    VC Keymap: fr_FR.ISO-8859-1
    X11 Layout: us

Trying to figure out how to make the setxkbmap stick

EDIT: now my applications pipe menu is broken for some reason.

  • I’m a Linux noob, so please bear that in mind.

I would try adding setxkbmap -layout fr to ~/.xinitrc or if it doesn’t work to ~/.profile

Here’s what wiki has to say about it:
