• Problem with login screen after installation. Black screen

    Hi everyone,
I’ve installed Antergos with to a Macbook pro 2009. Live CD works perfectally fine, but after installation, I get stucked at login screen. When I click to enter username the screens turns black ans system crash. I’ve tried whith nomodeset into grub line, it fixes black screen, but it’s impossible to log too. Also, I start without GUI, but network doesn’t work (neither wifi or ethernet). Dhcpcd seems doesn’t work . How could I fix it?
    Thanks

  • hi.
So you definitely want to post your Terminal’s output for the kind of graphics drivers you have.
    lspci -vnn | grep VGA -A 12
you would be able to do this with the tty1

you also want to post your Xorg.conf file so that the people here can help you to determine if your graphics card was configured correctly. For posting those, every Linux OS has a basic command called script.

So in order to post your graphics drivers and your Xorg.conf file, you do the following:

    script -a
post all your output with commands here along with the commads and the resultant output

    then do:
CTRL +D (to quit the command)

you will probably want to access that file called typescript with a live ISO (to USB or some other HD ) or OS if you are dual-booting.
You could also see what that file has if you do cat typescript .
It will be somewhere in your /homedirectory.
You will also need to post all your network card configurations.
You can do that with the same typescript command after you type the commands inside thetty1 with the resultant output.

Remove it and post it’s content’s here. Please use the CORRECT coding tags for posting output in your post.
If you want more info on that particular script, do man script or read a bit more on it here: script

    Boot logs would help too.
Please check the forum sticky on how to attain those.

For posting the logs, you may want to post them on a pastebin service.

EDIT: hi again. One thing just occured to me, you mentioned that you have no GUI but you get to a black screen. What happens if you tpye in startx ? GUI then?

  • Hi @mcolombo1981

A couple of things to ask first, which version of the Macbook pro do you have? I take it that you have this version : Macbook Pro 13 inch Is this correct?
I’m sorry, but you will have to educate me on something. This is NEITHER the 5.0 or 6.0 generation MacBook? Is this correct as well?
I don’t have a Macbook but I’m going to help you as much as possible to get you up and going.

I think the this can be fixed by a plain chroot rather than handling one issue at a time in order to succeed at fixing the next thing.
Are you able to get the live CD of Angergos?
If so, start of like this:
lsblk to find your Antergos partition

    su
    mkdir /mnt/antergos
    mount /dev/sdaX /mnt/antergos

If, and only if, you have seperate partitions strictly related to your Antergos partion, mount those as well

    mount /dev/sdx2 /mnt/arch/boot/
    mount /dev/sdx3 /mnt/arch/home/

    then
    arch-chroot /mnt/antergos
You may or may not need to do this but what this command does is copy over your resolv.conf to use the Internet.
    cp /etc/resolv.conf etc/resolv.conf
Again, you may not need to do that (because you have wireless in a live CD situation) but if you cannot achieve Internet connectivity, you can do the above command.

If at ANY point you come across this
    chroot: '/usr/bin/bash': permission denied
    do this:
    mount -o remount,exec /mnt/arch
But only if you encounter that problem.

Now prepare to update your system first:
    sudo pacman -Syu
then install the necessary wireless drivers
    sudo pacman -S broadcom-wl
If the above does not work/cannot install/not found/etc…, install from the AUR.
    yaourt -S broadcom-wl
Because you have GeForce 90xx and 300 series cards install:
    nvidia-340xx and nvidia-340xx-libgl
    Prepare to configure your card:
    nvidia-xconfig
You will now have a file auto-created in /etc/X11/xorg.conf
double check inside that file if there are any DRIs.
use the cat command and comment out #Load "dri" to be like this: Load "dri"
Do you want 32-bit OpenGL support?
    Then uncomment multilib
    in /etc/pacman.conf
    and install
    lib32-nvidia-libgl, lib32-nvidia-340xx-libgl
Double check that the servers in your area are also commented out in /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
    Do you want touchpad support?
    Then install xf86-input-mtrack-gitfrom the AUR.
For more detailed info and configuration, go to this link: Macbook Touchpad
Keyboard support for Fn and Fx keys? Link for more detailed config is here: Macbook Keyboard
For your webcam support, install isight-firmware-tools from the AUR. Macbook
Update your system one more time:
    sudo pacman -Syu
Now exit from your chroot environment.
Then also do cd / and umount --recursive /mnt/antergos/

Hopefully this has gotten you started. Post your results here.

  • Thanks again. I’ll try your solution, but it’s christmas so, maybe tomorrow I could do it. In addition, my macbook is Macbook pro 15 inch mid 2009 (model 5.3)
    Merry xmas

  • hi.
I was not sure that which specific version you had. You mentioned that you have Macbook pro 15 inch mid 2009 (model 5.3)

As I was unsure from the Macbook link (from Apple) I had a look at, I assumed it to be the 13 inch. (I don’t use any Apple products so I can’t really be helped for not knowing).
Double check on the Arch Wiki for installing for the 5.3 inch wireless libs as the one’s I may have posted above may be the incorrect one.
    Therefore, make the correct substitutions.

Double check also for the Nvidia libs as well for the 5.3.
    ESPECIALLY those.
Again, same assumption and potentially incorrect.

EDIT: Something else I just noticed in your Xorg.log:
Failed to load module "nv" (module does not exist, 0)
    and
``fonts.dir’ not found (or not valid) in “/usr/share/fonts/100dpi/”`
I don’t know if you had seen those earlier or not.
