• Unable To Create Samba Share

I would like to share my downloads folder user Samba. I have installed Samba, and enabled sharing under settings. When I go to share it I get

    • ‘net usershare’ returned error 255: invalid ownership on directory /var/cache/samba/msg.lock
net usershare: usershares are currently disabled*

Not sure why this is happening after a fresh install with Gnome.

When I change the owner of the msg.lock folder I get:

‘net usershare’ returned error 255: invalid permissions on directory ‘/var/cache/samba/msg.lock’: has 0777 should be 0755
net usershare: usershares are currently disabled

    When I “sudo chmod -R 0755 msg.lock” and try again I get:

‘net usershare’ returned error 255: invalid ownership on directory /var/lib/samba/private/msg.sock
net usershare: usershares are currently disabled

So I feel like I’m trapped in an infinite loop and could use some help.

    Now I’m down to

‘net usershare’ returned error 255: net usershare add: cannot convert name “Everyone” to a SID. The connection was refused. Maybe smbd is not running.
