• Embedded videos won't play

    Hi guys,

For some reason I am unable to play embedded HTML5 videos inside a browser (tried firefox and chromium). The video just seems to remain paused. When I click to move forward the image on the screen changes but it just won’t play. This probably happened after an update but I’m not sure when because I hadn’t tried watching a video for a while. Flash videos seem to work fine. I tried my work computer which also has antergos on it and I have the same issue there.

Any clues to what this could be about? Googling hasn’t helped me.

    Thanks!

  • Hi,

Can you post an url so I can try it here?

  • Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4a9aImx2uNk

Just a random youtube video I tried.

  • It’s not specific to youtube though. I have the same issue with playwire player videos too.
I can’t play the video on the homepage: http://www.playwire.com/

  • Firefox 42.0 and nouveau driver (nvidia) works perfectly well here.

Have you changed something in your system recently? Which graphics card do you have?

  • I haven’t changed anything recently. I’m using the embedded intel gpu. Could it be a driver issue?

  • @tip3r have any adblocking extensions? maybe try disabling some extensions.

also chrome:plugins disable your flash plugins and try the html5 again.

  • offtopic: Megaman! You’re trapped in a circle!

  • @karasu ill dance my way out!!! :dancers: Dustin’s Circles wont hold me!

  • No, that didn’t help. My only extension was chromecast which didn’t change anything when disabled.
Is it possible I have an adblock not listed in the extensions? Some times it starts playing the ad at the beginning of a video for a second before it stops.

  • @tip3r : I really don’t know. I’m sure it’s not a Firefox problem, as it works here (and I have adblock running, by the way). Lately some people are having issues with the Intel driver, but different from the one you’re suffering.

Are you sure it worked before with this same hardware and Antergos installation? Do you have a liveISO of Antergos to test it in the same computer?

  • @tip3r real head scratcher here

https://www.youtube.com/html5 does that say everything is supported?

    new tab incognito same results?

  • Yes, it says everything is supported.

  • @karasu yeah, I’ve been running antergos on this computer for about a year now and this just happened. I’ll look into issues with the intel driver to see if I find anything there. Do you guys have any suggestions for stuff I can try downgrading?

I’ll try a live ISO once I get a hold of a USB drive.

  • @tip3r couple things. try disabling hardware acceleration in either chromium or firefox.

    Reinstalling gst-libav, -good and -ugly

    check out this link also
    https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/3qgfun/youtube_html5_not_working_on_ff_41_linux/

Go to about:config in the URL bar and report the values of media.mediasource.enabled, media.mediasource.mp4.enabled and media.mediasource.webm.enabled.

    possible gstreamer issue.

  • @megaman yeah, I just saw a similar post in the arch linux forums and tried a ton of stuff with gstremer. Nothing seemed to work until I tried the good olde windows remedy of restarting my computer. Now everything works though I’m not sure what the problem was. Thanks for the help!

  • @tip3r very odd indeed. glad its working for ya now :+1:
