• X Session Not Starting

Hello! I originally posted this on the Arch forums, and got told to post here instead.

First time posting here, so please let me know if I am doing anything wrong.
I booted up my machine today, only to discover after getting past grub, the system hangs with a flashing ‘_’ cursor. I cannot type anything. I am able to switch to tty1-6 to use the command line.

I am running Xfce and using the lts kernel. I have 2 GTX 660 cards and two monitors.

If it’s relevant, I am also having this issue: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=202883

Please let me know if you need any more information, and thank you in advance.

  • Was everything working correctly, then after a reboot you got this problem or had the system never worked right?

The system was working correctly before. I had not changed any config files either, Just installed updates.

  • So I was able to get to the login screen by installing the nvidia-utils-beta from the AUR. Now I can’t get past the login screen. After I enter my password, nothing happens. Nothing is listed under the dropdown menu in the bottom right of the window. (It used to have one option called xfce session iirc)

I haven’t been able to use my computer for 2 days or so now and this is really starting to get on my nerves. :(

EDIT: thank you to the kind folks on irc for helping me solve my problem. Ended up having to force reinstall xfce-session.
