• Linux-kernel and linux-kernel-headers

I’ve a question about **compiling **kernels (I’ve installed linux mainline):
I was was wondering - is there a correct order to compiling and installing the linux kernel and headers?
Does one need to be installed before the other, or does it make no difference?

  • It makes no difference, I believe, since they just stack unused until next reboot. Of course, you might get some warnings when using a kernel with old headers or vice versa.
I usually install the kernel first, then the headers, and it works as expected.
You might want to download the packages from Arch Rollback Machine, since those are the only trusted error free builds (I always get some kind of error while compiling).
