• Black screen on first boot, after installation

    Hi everyone !

    I just installed Antergos on my laptop Aspire 4820TZG and on first startup, just after installation, the screen is black and I can do nothing.

    I think it’s a problem with my graphic card (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470) but how to fix that ?
    CTRL+ALT+F* don’t do anything, i can’t log into my account :-/

    Please help me :)

  • OK,

    First, try to boot in text mode, add this to your kernel line (press the key e when grub menu is shown)
    systemd.unit=multi-user.target

    Next thing to do would be to install the AMD proprietary driver (catalyst)… be warned that is not an easy task:

    Cheers!

  • Hi there!

    I have the same problem here, but I don’t have any Radeon installed:

    • Intel Core i5-4200U
    • Mobile Intel QM87 Express Chipset
    • Intel HD 4400 GPU
    • 14" FHD (1920x1080) Screen
    • 128 GB SSD
    • 12 GB DDR3L-1600 RAM
    • Intel Centrino 7260 2x2 AC + BlueTooth 4.0
  • Intel HD 4400 GPU

    That’s odd, as far as I know an Intel graphics card should work out of the box.

    Have you tried to boot in multi user mode anyway? (as explained above).

  • Right now I’m trying to install the recent testing build. If that does not work, I’ll try to boot in multi user mode.

  • try this in kernel line before boot.

    video=vesa:off vga=normal

  • Are you on Gnome ? If yes, have you tried to install GDM and disable lightDM.
    Might not be that but it has solved my black screen and I have a i5-4200U

    Good luck
