• Xorg keeps crashing

So I’ve noticed lately that Xorg will crash out of the blue for no apparent reason.

This is the only thing dmesg has for the 5 minutes prior to each crash:

    kactivitymanage[2625]: segfault at 7fa3582f1d10 ip 00007fa35853c881 sp 00007ffd59611418 error 4 in libQt5Sql.so.5.5.0[7fa358526000+41000]

And this is the trace in the appropriate /var/log/Xorg.0.log file:

I’m using Plasma5 with SDDM, my system is up to date.

  • @Tamius-Han

I’ve been experiencing exactly the same since yesterday. There must be some bug in plasma5 (5.3.2)

As I’m on holidays atm I don’t really care… if this is unbearable for you, maybe you should change your DE (just for a while) as Plasma5 is still too buggy for everyday use.

Meanwhile you should report this to the Plasma5 developers (go to https://bugs.kde.org)

    Seems someone already did.

EDIT: The more I look, the more it looks like that it’s actually a Xorg fuckup:

On Arch forums: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=199812 (OP has intel, I have radeon, someone in the thread mentions radeon)

Here’s the freedesktop bug report mentioned in the Arch forum thread: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89898

EDIT 2: Revisiting the logs (dmesg and Xorg.0.log), it seems that Xorg crashed slighly before kactivitymanager starts complaining. This combined with previous edit probably means that changing a DE won’t get rid of this bug.

    Edit 3-7: formatting

Final edit: Downgraded xorg-server and xorg-server-common to 1.17.2-2. If there’s no random crash in the next 24 hours I’ll consider the issue fixed.

  • Yup, looks like it was Xorg.

There’s also been a new Xorg patch yesterday evening (1.17.2-4), hopefully it isn’t broken.

  • I have fedora 22 and have the same bug. When I down graded qt5-qtbase, the problem went away.

    dnf downgrade --allowerasing qt5-qtbase
