• Using a backup of /var/cache/pacman/pkg (from live session) for a new installation!?

Can I copy a backup of downloaded files into /var/cache/pacman/pkg in live session in order to avoid downloading them again on a new machine? Will it work?

  • @Frenda It would be easier, and especially much faster, to backup an entire installed system with fsarchiver (or clonezilla) and restore it on a new machine, wouldn’t it?

  • Interesting!

  • This as possible?
You could install all the / var / cache / pacman / pkg on an iso live and how?

  • Yep, Cnchi can load all those packages instead of downloading them. With the latest isos is what it does (so Gnome installs faster).

    Karasu Hello!
This would be done through the console?
I wonder how, if it’s no trouble.

    Thank You.-

  • @judd

Cnchi automagically uses all packages found in /var/cache/pacman/pkg

If you want to use another location, you can do it using the -c param:
    sudo -E cnchi -dv -c /location/where/the/xz/files/are/stored

If, and only if, there’s no new version of the xz package online, it will use the package cached in that directory.

    Cheers!
