• \[Solved\] Logon aborts after package upgrade

    Hi there,.

two days ago, I upgraded the packages with PacmanXG and shut down the system. Today I bootet my Antergos system, typed in the password, pressed enter and after two seconds I was back again in LightDM.

Then I restored a Backup of my Antgeros system (two weeks old). I could login without any problem. After upgrading the packages with PcManXG I rebooted the system - and could not login again.

What can I do? (I use Antergos with Openbox)

    Best Regards, Happy

  • Which packages are you installing updates to? If either lightdm or openbox are among the updates, try holding those two back and upgrade the rest. A faster way to get straight to what’s causing the problem is to have a look at your logs after it kicks you back to login screen. You can access them by switching to a different VT (Ctrl+Alt+F2) and logging in. If you have a usb flash drive available, that would be easiest to save the logs (Restoring your backup will erase them).

This will save your journal to a file of your choice:

    sudo journalctl -bm \> /dev/sdb/journal.log

Post your lightdm log as well.

    sudo cp /var/log/lightdm /dev/sdb/lightdm

  • Ok. So after reading through all of these, I have learned nothing more than what I already knew LOL. I hate when that happens. I have a hunch though, check in /etc/lightdm and see if you have a file “lightdm.conf.pacnew”. If you do, then that means the file has changed upstream but pacman didn’t want to overwrite any customizations you made on your copy. So ideally you’ll want to merge the two into one lightdm.conf. If you don’t have a pacnew file, go ahead and post the lightdm.conf that you do have just to cover all the bases.

I have a hunch though, check in /etc/lightdm and see if you have a file “lightdm.conf.pacnew”. If you do, then that means the file has changed upstream but pacman didn’t want to overwrite any customizations you made on your copy.[/quote:2v3xghi3]
I found lightdm.conf.pacnew, backup up the original lightdm.conf and copied lightdm.conf.pacnew to lightdm.conf.
    Now, everything is ok!
    Thanks for your support
