• Cnchi Errors - Cannot complete installation

After manually updating cnchi to version 0.8.115, the installer stops with the following error:

    Antergos Installer - Error
"Can’t create download package list. Check log output for details"

I have attached the log files to this post.

    Thanks in advance!

    cnchi.7z
    pacman-boot.7z

  • Hi,

[2015-05-11 09:56:56] [pac] ERROR: could not open file /instal /var/lib/pacman/sync/antergos.db: Unrecognized archive format

It smells like a mirror error or a bad download. Do you get always the same result ?

Please, try running sudo pacman -Syy to update your database cache and tell us the result of this command.

    Thanks!

  • Yes. It is a mirror issue. I somehow managed to get a KDE system installed on the disk, because Gnome failed every single time. Atleast I do have a system up and running now.

I then installed the DDE, which doesn’t play well on top of KDE since it is basically a modifed Gnome Environment(I think). So I boot up the Live USB, and once again Cnchi fails to update. Mirrors are giving errors. I am afraid to even try to install again, do to the fact that Cnchi will blow the installation off the disk before it tries to download anything from the mirrors, thus leaving me without a running system once again.

I think that Cnchi needs to check the mirrors BEFORE the disk partitioning step. This issue is leaving users without a running system.

With that being said, I am going to download the testing image, and see how that goes. Hopefully it is better than my first go around.

  • I just tried an install from the testing image. It blew my previous install out, and has the exact error as before:

I am once more without a working system on my machine.

  • Ok. I managed to successfully install Antergos/Gnome on my machine, using the full testing image.

First I let let Cnchi update fail, and I did not try to manually update it.

    I then ran:
    sudo pacman -Syy

Everything looked good. Nothing failed at this point.

    Next I ran:
    sudo -E cnchi -dv

Now I go through the installation steps, keeping an eye at the output in the terminal. This time I get the error on the antergos.db as before.

Ok. Awesomesauce. So next I issue:
    sudo nano /etc/pacman.d./antergos-mirrorlist

I removed everything so it looked like so:

    # Server list generated by rankmirrors on 2015-05-17
    ##
    ## Antergos repository mirrorlist
    ##
    # Autodetect your closest mirror
    #Server = http://mirrors.antergos.com/$repo/$arch
    # China
    # Czech Republic
    # France
    # Greece
    # England
    # Germany
    # Netherlands
    # Spain
    # USA
    Server = http://repo.antergos.info/$repo/$arch

    Save the file.

    Now:
    sudo pacman -Syy

    Everything looks good again.

    sudo -E cnchi -dv

I now proceed with the install. But this time I have to manually select the partitions that cnchi created before, because if I select the auto/use entire disk option, cnchi fails.

Then I enter my user information, and click save. The installation completes. Reboot. Yay!

  • Hello I followed you instructions pretty closely but when I get to manually partitioning my hard drive and make my efi/boot partition it do not register that I made it so I cant continuelink text

  • @shadowvengence22 said:

This was a bug in some old Cnchi version that should be fixed by now. Please, can you tell me which version of Cnchi were you running? (the image is cropped).

  • @karasu same exact problem here, only following your instructions to successfully install did not work for me.

  • cnchi 0.8.137

  • @shadowvengence22
    I didn’t realise… /boot or /boot/efi need to be fat32 in UEFI systems.

  • I was running ext4 ill try fat32 and see if that fixes it

  • All right I fixed it went with fat32 and also apparently you don’t want to make a separate root and usr partition because then you cant boot lol.
