• CNCHI Suggestion?

I know I’m the new guy around here, but after my experience with an attempted install this morning, I have an idea.

As it is supposed to, cnchi wanted to update before installing. Had downloaded the latest 64-bit iso and put it on a flash drive to test on a spare laptop.

Problem is, even though cnchi “claimed” it updated, it was actually still the same .7.X version. After getting on IRC and also poking around the forum a bit, I found that I needed to install and ru reflector and update the mirror list, then force install the updated cnchi.

It would stand to reason that a new ISO image could be created with something baked in to run reflector and make sure there are no issues with the mirror list. If the installation is so dependent on having properly working mirrors and an up to the second updated cnchi, it seems this would resolve a LOT of issues that have been popping up.

That said, I am NOT a programmer/developer… Just an idea from a regular user. Is this possible, and how easy would it be to implement an automatic mirror refresh before attempting installation and add this to the image?

    Thanks for listening.

  • That said, I still am unable to install. Here’s a log…

  • @Wyn Thanks for the report. I’ve updated the package list on our server so kcalc won’t cause a failure now.

  • The old “Can’t create download package list. Check log output for details” error is back again. With the recent antergos-2015.04.18-x86_64.iso testing build and default ISO’s cnchi 0.8.29 updated to 0.8.56 during install.

This time seems like cnchi 0.8.56 looks for kdeutils-print-manager package, can’t find it, and thus finishes in error. The error is found near the end of the /tmp/cnchi.log:

    file:///home/just/cnchi.log

I’m not sure that the log will be attached. If it won’t, this is the final piece from the log:

edit: forgot - I was installing KDE, with almost all Extras included, and only two excluded - truetype fonts and samba.

  • Yes, I see they renamed the package. I think I will try and contact the KDE maintainer for Arch because this is a little ridiculous. There needs to be a place where we can go to view what has changed. :unamused: But anyway…Thanks for reporting it!

  • this is a little ridiculous

    You’re being kind here…

It seems to me that when a package gets ported to Qt5 then they remove the kde-utils prefix. That’s the perfect way to break any installer

    Cheers!

  • @karasu Right…but that’s the thing…they don’t have nor wish to have an installer to worry about breaking. Meh, I can’t really fault them for it though. It’s not their problem. So what I think we will do is just have cnchi try again after removing the kde** prefix from the package name when it fails. :sunglasses:

  • There’s not much to do besides determine the sane default configuration. I’ll try to get to it soon.
