• Mount read only

I use gnome 3. When I plug in a ext3/4 flash driver or usb harddrive, it’s always read only for user. I can write it with root account and this problem doesn’t happens when it’s ntfs format. Can anyone figure this out? Thanks.

  • You can use chmod or chown to modify the file system permissions after you mount them.

    sudo chown -R user\_name:users /media/mountpoint

The permissions should stick even after unmounting since you are using ext partitions.
