• TLP - Drive Clicking?

    Not sure which section to put this in.

    I installed TLP on my laptop to attempt to squeeze a bit better battery life out of it. It seems to do a good job, although i hear my hard drive clicking quite a bit.

    Are there settings I need to adjust, or should I just remove TLP altogether?

    Thanks

  • Forgive my ignorance, but what’s TLP?

  • @karasu I think that he means this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/TLP

  • @Myk-Robinson Well, I haven’t used TLP but as far as I know, maybe you should change some settings related to hard drive spinning limitations or slow-downs. Maybe look at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/TLP#Hard_disk and change HDD values to 255 to disable HDD power-saving with TPL.

  • I found an article last night that may have helped. I adjusted this value:

    DISK_APM_LEVEL_ON_BAT=“128 128”

    And changed both to 192. Gave a good balance on power and eliminated the constant clicking every few seconds.

    Thanks
