• new instalation

I can’t do a new instalation. after reboot i got
    starting version 218
    Antergos: clean, xxxxx/xxxxx files,
    [ 0.507432] wlo: online cpus 1
    and nothing after this.

  • @Carlos-Nava What are your system’s specs? Is it UEFI boot or BIOS boot? Check your UEFI/BIOS console for any options related to your graphics card and try changing them.

    Cheers!

  • Bios. Its a compaq mini, never had this trouble using antergos, manjaro, ubuntu etc.
And guess started after updating my antergos last week.

  • Okay, I misunderstood your problem at first. Remove the “quiet” parameter from the kernel boot command (press ‘e’ when grub starts). Let me know if any additional messages are output on the screen. Thanks.

  • Hi.
Removing quiet parameter I got this, and nothig then.IMG_20150218_160507.jpg
    Thanks.

  • @Carlos-Nava Okay, the first thing to check is the system logs. Are you able to switch to another VT (using Ctrl + Alt + F2)? If you can then go ahead and log in on the command line and let me know what you find in the logs using these commands:

    sudo nano /var/log/lightdm/lightdm.log
    sudo journalctl -b 0

After running the journal command press the End key to scroll to the end of the log and then start reading it from bottom to top. Let me know if you see any errors or warnings.

  • OK. this is thelightdm.log

  • Okay… Make sure the following file exists and that it contains the correct information: /etc/lightdm/lightdm-webkit2-greeter.conf

    [greeter]
    webkit-theme=antergos
    font-name=DejaVuSans 11
    xft-antialias=true
    xft-dpi=96
    xft-hintstyle=slight
    xft-rgba=rgb

Then check /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf and verify that the following properties are correct:

    greeter-session=lightdm-webkit2-greeter
    user-session=gnome

Be sure to replace gnome with the DE you have installed. If you find an incorrect value, fix it and then restart lightdm using this command:
    sudo systemctl restart lightdm

    Let me know the result!

  • I have the same problem on a new install. I’ve tried both XFCE and Mate now. Lightdm fails to load. I tried the above to no avail (obviously I left the user-session as the appropriate desktop environment).

I’m also assuming that the lightdm.conf variables go within the [SeatDefaults] section (since user-session existed there to begin with).

In my installation (both of them) the lightdm-webkit2-greeter.conf file was completely missing and within the lightdm.conf the greeter-session variable was not set.

Any other thoughts? Seems to be impacting all new installs. Coming from Manjaro and interested in trying out Antergos to track with Arch base much more closely.

    Thanks!

Edit: After looking at lightdm.log it’s indicating that it “Failed to find session configuration lightdm-webkit2-greeter”. I tried setting “greeters-directory” in lightdm.conf to “/etc/lightdm” to no avail.

  • All values are correct.
    Now the output is…
[ OK ] Started Light Display Manager
Stopping User Manager for UID 620…[ OK ] Stopped User Manager for UID 620.[ OK ] Removed slice user-620.slice.stopping Light Display Manager
[ OK ] Stopped Light Display Manager
[ FAILED ] Failed to start Light Display Manager

    and the lightdm.service satatus is
    18022015034.jpg

  • @windexh8er The greeters directory should be commented out so that it looks in the default locations automatically. Here is a complete copy of what lightdm.conf should be. (Be sure to change the user-session if you arent using cinnamon)

    lightdm.conf

@Carlos-Nava Okay, could you post the lightdm log here? Thanks.

This is really strange. No other users are having this issue besides the two of you. I still have not seen anything that would indicate what the problem is. Is there any content in the greeter log: /var/log/lightdm.log/x-0-greeter.log ?

  • Hi @lots.0.logs
I’m having the same problems. Using the 32 bit image on my lenovo s10.
    /var/log/lightdm/x-0-greeter.log is empty.

    I tried different desktop environments.

Do you need any more logs?

  • I also have the same problem, I had my system working since last year but after the last update with the information of the last iso (2015.11.1) and my system start with the same problem, the system only show the info [starting version 218
Antergos: clean, xxxxx/xxxxx files,] and nothing happens, the sreen blinks and systemd never starts. I really loved my antergos and really want to fix it.

  • If one of you could post what’s in your system journal as well as your Xorg log that will be helpful. Though in order to do that you will need a usb drive to save the logs to while you have no GUI. Here are the steps:

    su
    mount /dev/sdb /mnt
    journalctl -b 0 > /mnt/journal.log
    cp /var/log/Xorg.0.log /mnt
    cp /var/log/lightdm/lightdm.log /mnt
    cp /var/log/lightdm/x-0-greeter.log /mnt
    chmod a+rw -R /mnt
    umount /mnt
    exit

    Thanks.

  • Hi.
I got the logs, but -how can I upload them? the upload button is not working.

  • Sorry! Its working now!

  • Just let me install it againt, I just installed LM Mate. Give two days. Thanks for your help. Cheers.
