• Grub error

Hi, I encountered a problem few days ago with test image and same problem today with Antergos 2015.01.11 release.

    Loading linux kernel…
    error: can’t find command ‘rw’.
    Loading initial ramdisk…
alloc magic is broken at 0xd…
Aborted. Press any key to exit.

This problem occurs only when using full disk encryption. Has anyone tested images with full disk encryption?

  • I am having the exact same problem.

  • Hi,

Did you use automatic mode or advanced? If you used advanced, what’s your partition layout’?

  • Yes, I used automatic mode. I noticed this problem first time in last test image.

  • Hi,

We are unable to reproduce this issue. Did you also opt for disk encryption during install? Could you post your install log here. Mount the antergos root from the Live system. The log will be in /var/log/cnchi-<date>.log

  • Today I tested and reproduce this issue on another PC and on VirtualBox machine with 32/64bit images. Test image before the test image (antergos-2015.01.11-x86_64.iso) did not have this problem. You can look what you changed between this two test images. Maybe this can cause a problem.

  • Those error messages are normal. They are caused by an upstream bug. Please post the grub.cfg that was generated and also the output of:[command:nhrjbfnh]sudo fdisk -l[/command:nhrjbfnh]

  • I’ll try tomorrow on a virtual machine. Which kernel versions are used in testing images? I can’t find any testing images on repository. I begin to suspect that the problem is in the 3.17.6-1 kernel.
    Thanks for the help!

  • i have exact the same problem. I use[b:18oov5mc] latest[/b:18oov5mc] iso and [b:18oov5mc]auto intsaller[/b:18oov5mc] (updated).

to reproduce this issue: use gui installer and select: encryption + lvm + seperate home. I think its an problem with the encryption, without that the install works fine!

to open your logfiles boot live iso and open an terminal

    sudo modprobe dm-crypt
    sudo cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sda\*\* lvm

    mount /dev/AntergosVG/AntergosRoot /mnt
    mount /dev/AntergosVG/AntergosHome /mnt/home

you will find your files in /mnt/var/log

  • @quorks we don’t need to load dm-crypt and mount partition manually, with Antergos live is enough to use cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sda* lvm.

  • Wow, okay thanks for that. I see the problem. The kernel boot command is wrong. I’ll try to find what’s causing it ASAP.

If anyone has the chance to test the development version of Cnchi for this bug and report the results it would be much appreciated! You can run the dev version by exiting the installer when it first appears. Then press Alt+F2 and enter this command:[command:2h5gxksy]sudo -E cnchi-dev development[/command:2h5gxksy]

  • Error interrupt installation.

ERROR: unsupported operand type(s) for+=:'NoneType' and 'str'

  • Hi Dzeri,

In which Cnchi version did you get that error exactly?

    Thanks!

  • @karasu, after command

    sudo -E cnchi-dev

    the Cnchi version is 0.7x.

  • i got the same error with the new installer

    Cnchi 0.7.147

  • I cheked version now, the version is same Cnchi 0.7.147.

  • Hi. Installed Antergos using automatic installer with encryption and got the same messed up Grub conf.
    Tried to fix it:

    linux /vmlinuz-linux root=UUID=42c070eb-9162-4504-848c-c783cfe117bc cryptdevice=/dev/disk/by-uuid/42c070eb-9162-4504-848c-c783cfe117bc:cryptAntergos rw quiet

It asks for encryption pass-phrase but then it falls back to root fs.

How can I fix it manually?

    Thanks.

  • @Dzeri: I can’t reproduce it here! How strange… Are you using automatic mode, right? With LUKS encryption, right? Geez… I love computers

@saraivinha: your root UUID (/dev/sda2 ?) is not the same as your /dev/mapper/Antergos one. Run the blkid command and you’ll see what I mean.

EDIT: Yep, I can reproduce it now. I’ll come back to you when I have fixed it. Thanks for the patience.

  • Yep that worked. Thanks karasu.
