• Btrfs installer issues \[IN-PROGRESS\]

Guys, please, please, PLEASE fix the btrfs bugs in the installer! I really love this distro, I’ve installed it 5 times now (I’m a distro hopper) and the ONLY thing that bugs me about it (the reason I keep moving away from this distro) is because I can’t use btrfs on my root drive! When I try to use the CLI installer, it just flat out refuses to make btrfs drives (I tried both with and without compression/ssd optimizations turned on). When I use the GUI installer, it’ll allow me to create a btrfs drive, but it overwrites it with ext4 prior to the install. It’s done this for the last two iterations of your installer. I tried living with it, but having an ext4 root drive irks me to no end because I get much better performance with btrfs on my hardware setup.

If you get that fixed, this will be the PERFECT distro and I will have found a home.

I don’t know if this will help, but I’m installing this on my laptop (Asus G73JH), 10gb ram, 180gb SSD, and I’m partitioning SDA into 3 partitions, sda1 for boot (500mb), sda2 for root (15gb) and the rest for home. I typically run the boot drive as ext4 and both / and /home as btrfs with compress=lzo, autodefrag, ssd, noatime.

What amazed me is that EVERYTHING works…keyboard lights and all, which is VERY rare for linux, it doesn’t work in Mint or OpenSuse, but it works in Antergos.

So pleeeeeeeeeeeease get that fixed and I will be eternally grateful!

Also, keep up the great work!

  • I would imagine that on the CLI version, it’s just a scripting error, that could be relatively easy fixed. I have no idea how the GUI version works, does it use Archbootstrap?

  • Yes the install script for CLI is based on archbootstrap. You can check it out on our github I took a quick look for anything obvious but didnt have time to really get into it. If you find anything let us know! User contributions are always welcomed
