• \[Solved\] wifi unstable - connections that lose internet

    Hello,
I’m having trouble with wifi connectivity.

I can connect to my home wifi network and use the internet connection however:

    • internet connection is slow and unstable
    • I remain connected to the wifi network, (or antergos thinks I am), but I lose the connection to the internet.

This bahaviour is random and frequent. I might be able to use the internet for 30 seconds or 20 minutes. But eventually the connectivity is lost. I am on a dual book macbook pro. I do not have this connection issue when using OSX, so I think it must be a problem with my setup in Antergos.

I have included some information below – let me know if more is needed. I really have no clue what to do to solve this issue – any help is welcomed!

    Specs:
    Macbook pro 8,1; b43-fwcutter, b43-firmware 5.100.138-2 from AUR

    lspci -vnn | grep 14e4:
02:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM57765 Gigabit Ethernet PCIe [14e4:16b4] (rev 10)

    03:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4331 802.11a/b/g/n [14e4:4331] (rev 02)

I have attached the output of ctl | grep wlp3s0 if that information is helpful. (Only text from the time of one

  • OK - I think I solved this - will post here in case others experience this.
I noticed that netctl and NetworkManager were both installed. Usually only one should be.
netctl was not active - removing with pacman seems to have solved the stability issue.

Not sure why both were installed - this is a fresh install (few days old), I don’t think I installed netctl…
Do others have both? Is there a reason for this?

  • yes, I’ve netctl also, but no problem with broadcom. My wifi card uses open source driver tho

is netctl not required from any other package?

  • Hi,

Netctl is not installed by default specifically, but maybe it’s a dependency for another package…

    Cheers!

Oh - OK. I will keep this in mind. If I notice issues with other components or programs I will post them here.
However, my wifi is solid now - even seems to be faster, though that is probably just because I’m happy to have this issue solved.

    Very happy with Antergos now!
