• Antergos no more

    Starting from July 1, 2019, Antergos cannot be installed. The [antergos] repo is not functional anymore.

    For new installations, cnchi will inevitably fail with the error:

    alt text

    Antergos Installer - Error

    Cannot find these packages: pamac, numix-icon-theme-square, antergos-midnight-timers, antergos-gnome-defaults-list, zuki-themes, antergos-keyring, numix-icon-theme, antergos-mirrorlist, antergos-alpm-hooks, light-locker-settings, numix-frost-themes, antergos-wallpapers, antergos-desktop-settings: add_fatal in /usr/share/cnchi/src/misc/events.py:83
    Please reference the following number when reporting this error: 0
    [Close]

    For existing, old installations, an attempt to install or upgrade a package from [antergos] repo will inevitably fail with the error:

    File <package-name> is corrupted (invalid or corrupted package (PGP signature)).

    For example:

    ...
    error: antergos-wallpapers: signature from "Antergos Build Server (Automated Package Build System) <[email protected]>" is unknown trust
    :: File /var/cache/pacman/pkg/antergos-wallpapers-0.7-3-any.pkg.tar.xz is corrupted (invalid or corrupted package (PGP signature)).
    Do you want to delete it? [Y/n]
    error: failed to commit transaction (invalid or corrupted package (PGP signature))
    Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.
    Error installing repo packages
    ...

    If you didn’t move to Antefree yet, have a working Antergos system with [antergos] repo enabled, and want to install a package from it, then the most practical way to do so is to change the default SigLevel for the repo.

    Caution: installing unsigned package{s) represent a serious security risk.

    Edit /etc/pacman.conf file and change the SigLevel for [antergos] repo.

    From:

    [antergos]
    SigLevel = PackageRequired
    Include = /etc/pacman.d/antergos-mirrorlist

    To:

    [antergos]
    #==2019.07.05
    #--just warning
    #--security risks:
    SigLevel = Optional TrustAll
    #==
    Include = /etc/pacman.d/antergos-mirrorlist

    Packages will be installed without any verification of their content. Whatever kind of code they could contain.

    Good luck to all

  • @just Thank you for everything you and the rest of the team have done for us, I wish you all the best.

  • Thank you, Bryan, for kind words. Thanks to all people, who for years were spending their precious time reading my posts, and found them useful or not.

    Final words in OP are addressed to those who leaves the forum and Antergos. I hope to remain here until the forum is closed.

    @Bryanpwo By no mean the OP is an official announcement about Antergos closure. It’s just an ordinary post from an ordinary user. I’m not a member of Antergos team. The initial part of the post on Endeavour site sounds a bit too strong, I’m afraid.

  • Solved, I removed it.

  • @just you are very welcome to join at E-OS forum!

    And also from my side: @just thanks for all the fish!
    And for the detailed howto here, users waiting for this.

  • Thanks for the 2nd invitation.

    My real job is the senior system analyst on IBM mainframes in banking environment. Old monsters rarely change their habits. Almost nothing has changed for us since seventies-nineties of the past century.

    We use z/OS, not Linux. We use Cobol 2, not C, Python or Java. We use DB2, not MySQL or MariaDB. We use JCL, not Bash. We use CICS instead of DEs. We use PCs only as stupid terminals for our beloved mainframes.

    The power is in stability. That’s why we’re able to offer a reliable service to tens or even hundreds thousands of clients simultaneously.

    Professional inclination impacts on domestic habits. I’m still running Gnome 2 (two) at home. Studying for almost a decade a possibility to transit to Gnome 3. All computers are rigorously booted by Grub, not by Grub 2.
    Gnome 2 is alive!

    I promise to start studies about a possibility to transit to your forum ☺ . Thanks again.

    Just a stupid question. I am in vacation now without access to my Antergos computers, so I plan to become Antergos free towards the end of July. As far as I understand this can be done with or without Antergos repo working, and even if Antergos repo goes offline. All the information about removing Antergos packages is already stored locally on the Antergos computers. Is that right or am I missing something?

  • @just
    That’s the kind of detailed answer I wanted!

  • @new2antrgs it will be possible, but a bit different, if Antergos Repo goes offline.

    Hopefully Antergos @development will provide what they promise and pushing the final update

  • @new2antrgs said in Antergos no more:

    …As far as I understand this can be done with or without Antergos repo working, and even if Antergos repo goes offline…

    There’s absolutely nothing to worry about.

    When packages are uninstalled, the repo entry must be present in /etc/pacman.conf, but the online acces to the repo(s) is not needed.

    To prove that, I restored Antergos Gnome, which has the [antergos] repo. Then, opened terminal and Antefree Gnome post in browser. And switched the Internet connection OFF. It simulates the case with {antergos] repo gone offline.

    Finally, without thinking twice, fastly and blindly, I simply copy-pasted and run one by one all commands from the post in the terminal. Including the point, where the repo is removed from pacman.conf.

    In less then 5 min [antergos] repo was removed. After switching Internet connection back ON and upgrading, pacman was showing only four standard Arch repos in Antefree Gnome.

    Well, I went into the etc/pacman.conf file (as root) and I removed:

    [antergos]
    SigLevel = PackageRequired
    Include = /etc/pacman.d/antergos-mirrorlist

    and I copied and inserted in its place:

    [antergos]
    #==2019.07.05
    #–just warning
    #–security risks:
    SigLevel = Optional TrustAll
    #==
    Include = /etc/pacman.d/antergos-mirrorlist

    just as you indicated.

    Now, when I run < yay -Syu >, I get the message:

    error: config file /etc/pacman.conf, line 1: All directives must belong to a section.
    error parsing ‘/etc/pacman.conf’

    And, of course, nothing updates. (< yay -Syua > doesn’t work either.)

    What did I do wrong?

    Thanks.

    Lawrence

  • From your description seems like you did everything right.

    But the errors speaks about an error at line number 1. While [antergos] section should be found at the bottom of the pacman.conf.

    Post back here the whole content of your pacman.conf. Place opening and closing code tags - three backtick chars ``` - on lines immediately above and below the file’s content.

    Edit

    I’llbe out for awhile, for doing four Debian 10 installations, so will look at your answer later.

    I have copied the text and it shows here as ‘normal’ font but in the preview (and what you will see in the post), there are ‘large’ fonts mixed with smaller ones. Nor is the proper spacing (as shown in the actual text file) shown. I do not understand why this is is. The backticks don’t show properly either.

    Thanks for any help.

    Lawrence

    P.S. As per your instructions I have fixed this post.

  • It’s not a block of code. It’s a strangely formatted piece of free text.

    It’s not clear, where the file starts, where it ends, what is its eaxct content.

    Please, put three backtick chars ``` immediately above and immediately below you pacman.conf. Like in example below:
    ```
    1st line
    2nd line
    Last line
    ```
    In the forum your post will look like a block of code:

    1st line
    2nd line
    ...
    Last line

    While writing a post, check how it will look like in the right rectangular area. It displays how exactly a post will look like once posted.

    Respect other’s time. Don’t force to decrypt a strange text.

  • Dear just -

    I apologize for the incorrect formatting. I did not know how to copy that .conf file correctly. So I copied your backtick chars and pasted them into my previous post and now the pacman.conf file’s contents appears as you wanted them.

    I did not mean to waste your time. Please go back to my previous post and take a look at the pacman.conf contents and see if you can figure out what I did wrong. If necessary, I could recopy it again now that I know how to put those backtick characters into mu post.

    Thank you very much and I again apologize to you.

    Ok, no problem. Sorry for my rough reply.

    Your pacman.conf is good. I don’t see any error in it. Repeat - your pacman.conf is correct.

    I even did a rather unusual test. I completely replaced the content of my own pacman.conf with yours, with a direct copy-paste from your post.

    Pacman is very happy with your file and runs very well with it here:

    Wait a minute. Please, post back here also the content of your /etc/pacman.d/antergos-mirrorlist. The file is parsed by pacman along with pacman.conf. Maybe it is damaged somehow.

    I hope this helps you find out what’s the matter and I very much appreciate your attention to me and my problem. By the way, though yay does not work, I was still able to get updates via the package manager. This is strange …

    Lawrence

    P.S. Just as soon as I posted this message, the package manager showed that I had another update. It was from the AUR and it was for < telegram-desktop-bin > and this time the package manager did not work; I got the following message:

    Synchronizing package databases…
    Refreshing antergos.db…
    Starting full system upgrade…
    Cloning telegram-desktop-bin build files…
    Checking telegram-desktop-bin dependencies…

    I just noticed that there is a third file in the < /etc/pacman.d/ > folder. it is < mirrorlist.pacnew >. Here is what that shows:

    I couldn’t put this in my prior post as I got a message that the post was too long. There is also, as you know, a folder contained within the < /etc/pacman.d/ > folder called < gnupg >. I don’t know if that has any importance regarding my problem.

    Don’t know if this will help you …

    1. I’ve re-run yay with yours pacman.conf, mirrorlist and antergos-mirrorlist files. Everything is OK with three files:

      ┌──[just]@[alexzen]:~$
      └─> dt && yay -Syy
      Current datetime:

      ┌──[just]@[alexzen]:~$
      └─>

      The error is caused by something else. For sure, not by these three files.

    2. You may safely ignore mirrorlist.pacnew file. As well as all other .pacnew files. Use reflector to optimize Arch mirrors.

    3. I never used pikaur, so can’t say anything about it.
