• usb fat 32 drive mounts read-only

    When I mount the following external usb hard drive it gets mounted read only

    this is the output of mount:

    $ mount | grep SAM
    /dev/sdb1 on /run/media/sas/SAMSUNG type vfat (ro,nosuid,nodev,relatime,uid=1000,gid=985,fmask=0022,dmask=0022,codepage=437,iocharset=iso8859-1,shortname=mixed,showexec,utf8,flush,errors=remount-ro,uhelper=udisks2)

    I have no reference to /dev/sdb1 in my /etc/fstab

    I guess there might be some error with the drive, and it’s being remounted ro.

    Any tip to trouble shoot this?

  • open a terminal insert: journalctl -f and replug the stick, so you will see what is going on with the stick…or
    check it with gparted ? (if you need to install it first make sure to install also optional dependencies)

  • @opensas
    Do you have physical a switch on the USB drive? 😉

  • @manuel oh yes such devices are also possible ;)
