• Antergos does not update automatically

Hello, I was used to the almost daily automatic updates. Doesn’t happen anymore, I have to search manually for updates. How can I correct this, please? Thx very much for your precious help.

  • what do you mean by automatical ? i prefer not you have to see what updates sometimes iw wise to wait a bit

    which distro updated automatical ?

  • every time I start my system it checks whether there are updates available and lists them. Of course you can then choose to install them or not, but you don have to verify manually. Distro ? Gnome, I guess?

  • which desktop are you usinng and using pamac-notifier on desktop ?

  • @ringo32 said in Antergos does not update automatically:

    pamac-notifier

    pamac-notifier? What is that?

  • comes with distro as update notifier if there is a update ?

  • The distro I think is arch 41 and something.

  • You mean the update notifier is not active, then?

  • probably …

im using myself Lxqt , kalu as notifier, but sometimes i wait some days and sometimes dont , depends which updates it is… not i have to set password on it because i set it just klik and update :) also on my wive pcwith pamac…not advisable… but automatic update is not always good you have to see what it is, daily update is not always needed. for gnome desktop i dont know in this point if you have a icon on the panel and now is gone ? could be gnome i realy dont know :)

  • ok thx for your help, have a good day.

under GNOME there is Pamac updates indicator, needs to be enabled with tweak-tool under extensions to show updates in the panel

  • @joekamprad Thank you so much! I had not seen this possibility.

  • @joekamprad That’s really strange: when I enabled the Pamac updates indicator the updates started working. But a few days later, with the Pamac updates indicator still enabled (I checked), the updates are not suggested. When I look for updates manually there are plenty available. Is there an explanation for this, please, and how can I correct the “behaviour”?
Which leads to a second question (new topic…?): I always assumed that since Antergos is a rolling release, the updates suggested by the system were only for already installed packages and therefore justified and SHOULD be applied. Now someone replied in one of my recent posts that updates should not always de applied. Really ? Why ? Thx so much for your precious help.

  • @longliveantergos said in Antergos does not update automatically:

Now someone replied in one of my recent posts that updates should not always be applied. Really …

Rolling release means that a program gets updated if development is releasing a new version of this program, same for other software like the kernel itself.

A non-rolling release is freezing all programs and the kernel till they update all together in a new release set.

Using the latest versions means also that they are no bugfree, and if this is the case you can roll back to the version before, or if you get knowledge about a case like this do not update it to the version with the bug…

  • @longliveantergos without some logs I cannot help on the issue on pamac do not get all updates on time, as I do not have such here on 3 different machines… and better open a new one for this issue.

  • @joekamprad Thank you. Which logs would you like to receive please?

  • journalctl | grep pamac | curl -F 'f:1=<-' ix.io

    journalctl -b -0 > journal.txt

Will create a textfile of the log you can paste to a pastebinservice and post the link
