• Still consistently freezing

Following up on a previous post I made, after trying various distros to see if the freezing was related to Antergos, I learned that the freezing is consistent across many distributions.
On the advice of someone, I tested it out using the LTS kernel, and after a time, that too freezes, which leads me to believe the freezing might be caused by my hardware.
On the advice of yet another forum member here, I got my hardware spec info.
Warning, its a very large amount of info:

Could something here be the issue?

    *correcting codeblock.

  • a more useful information would be typing inxi -Fxzd in Terminal and describing in not too much detail what you were doing when the system froze. also looking in your .xsession-errors in your home directory for an excessive amount of the same line. this file turns into .xsession-errors.old if you happen to reboot because the system was unresponsive

just a quick intuition i would guess overheating and hard drive or RAM failure.

As for what I was doing, I had both Chromium and the Discord desktop client open, and was downloading some things off the software browser.
I’m not sure what the normal idle temperature is supposed to be but my system does seem like its running a bit warm.
As for the xsessions file, I’m not sure how to upload it but I did get this error many times. Could this be the problem?

  • you can eventually update your bios to 5.10 , and mayby try to use amd-ucode if ot installed…

  • What @ringo32 suggests makes a lot of sense, in addition of his answer here is a short video about it from AMD.

  • @Mora
Ryzen has had some problems with Linux. AFAIK, newer kernel versions have (and still may) fix Ryzen related problems, so I guess that’s the way to go.

Also as @ringo32 and @Bryanpwo suggest, keeping BIOS/firmware and microcode updated may help.

  • so after updating my bios, like ringo suggested, everything seems to be running a bit smoother. I don’t know if its just placebo, but everything at least seems to be running okay and I haven’t experienced any of the crashes I normally do.
Thank you all so much for the help.

  • some information that may help useful

    sudo dmesg | grep -i "error\|warn\|fail\|microcode"

  • @trytip said in Still consistently freezing:

    sudo dmesg | grep -i “error|warn|fail|microcode”

    sudo unnecessary ☺
