• Booting after reformatting /home partition

Given a working desktop installation with separate partions for the / and /home directories, can the user [u:1xax0gz1]reformat[/u:1xax0gz1] the partition mounting at /home, then simply boot and log in to a fresh, empty user home, but with the desktop GUI working as before? (Minus configs previously altered or added by the user, of course.)

[edit: restated in the hope of greater clarity]

  • If anyone is curious, the question is discussed here[/url:381mgdmo].
