• Global menu for gnome and prevent asking for sudo password ?

    Hello everyone.

I installed antergos in the default way with gnome.

I’m from ubuntu and I really liked the global menu from unity.
It is possible to have the same feature on gnome ?

I also used jayatana (global menu support for java swing apps like netbeans).
Does it work in gnome or is it only for unity ?

Someone know how to prevent yaourt and pacman asking for sudo password in bash script.
I created a “post install script” that install all my needed apps like this:

    sudo pacman -S firefox --noconfirm
    yaourt -S android-studio netbeans-php --noconfirm

What should I add to prevent this and make the script completely silent ?
    Asking sudo password only once.

    Thanks in advance.

if by global menu you mean the sidebar you can install this:
    [https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/307/dash-to-dock/][0]">[https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/][1] … h-to-dock/

EDIT: also pacman is an admin or superuser program so it requires a password.
even if you can disable the use of passwords its highly unrecommended because of security issue’s

  • Not the sidebar or dock, I mean the top menu like on OS X.
We win some place on the screen and it’s perfect for my netbook.

I need a way to stop pacman and yaourt to ask me for sudo password each time they need.
On ubuntu, in my bash scripts, it asks me sudo password once.
Can I disable this temporarily from a bash file ? Maybe changing a timeout setting somewhere ?

  • Gnome has the global menu, hasnt it? For instance, when iI am running Empathy, I have its menu shown at the top bar icon, not at the top of the Empathy window itself…

    1.Antergos Linux KDE plasma / Gnome 2.Ubuntu 17.10 64bit Unity
    Intel Core2 Duo CPU P8400 2.26GHz‖ RAM 3908 MiB ‖ Dell Inc. 0F328M - Dell Inc. Latitude E6500
Intel Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics [8086:2a42] {i915

  • Sorry for the delay, I reinstalled antergos because it rebooted all the time.

After reinstall, gnome “global menu” worked like a charm, it didn’t on my first installation.
    Very strange bug…

Unfortunately it doesn’t work for IntelliJ IDEA and I imagine all java swing based applications.
