• Unable to start Antergos after installation on a Thinkpad 13

    After not using the laptop for a while, I decided to do a fresh install of Antergos (so the issue might have been caused by an update that happened after the last pacman -Syu). The installation went through without a hitch, but the system doesn’t boot up afterwards.

    Tried so far: reinstalling several times (with different DEs), installing other distros (they work, so this looks like an issue limited to Antergos), installing on a different (desktop) machine (worked without a problem, so it looks like a hardware related issue as indicated by the log)

    there is a urgend marked Bios update aviable for your device!

    Or try to check advanced options on install and choose LTS Kernel to be installed also.
    Then after boot into boot menu choose advanced options for Antergos and take LTS Kernel to boot.

    Is the journal from booting into installed Antergos or from Live Iso boot?
    If you cvan boot into CLI and login after pressing [Ctrl+alt+F2] you can may also install LTS Kernel from there without the need to reinstall everything:

    sudo pacman -S linux-lts linux-lts-headers
    sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

  • @joekamprad
    Oops, haven’t noticed the BIOS update, I will install it and report back.

    I knew I forgot to mention something, I did try the LTS kernel and no bueno.

    The journal was copied using the live ISO, I wasn’t able to change to a different TTY.

  • Nope, updating the BIOS didn’t help.
    I also tried installing the minimal version of Antergos, that didn’t work too.

  • minimal ISO installs the same as the big ISO…

  • I also tried reinstalling again now that the BIOS is updated, didn’t help.

  • @dpeukert said in Unable to start Antergos after installation on a Thinkpad 13:

    thinkpad_acpi: Error probing battery 2
    adding:

    modprobe.blacklist=thinkpad_acpi

    to kernel parameter at boot line should solve your problem.

    on thegrub boot menu press “e” and add this right after quiet that it looks like this:

  • @joekamprad That solved it. Thank you very much for your help and I promise I’ll Google harder next time :)

  • allways good to check archforum if something realy fails, but if system do not boot at all it is also hard what you need to search for…

    you can make this permanent also by adding it to /etc/default/grub like this:
    sudo nano /etc/default/grub

    # GRUB boot loader configuration

    GRUB_DEFAULT=0
    GRUB_TIMEOUT=5
    GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR="Antergos"
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="modprobe.blacklist=thinkpad_acpi resume=UUID=43209580943-34-5-ertfg-er-r"
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""
    ...

    save with [Ctrl+X]

    then regenerate grub.cfg:

    sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
