• Error: SANE: Error during device I/O (code=9)

I have a HP Deskjet 3050 j610 and i’m trying to get the scanner to work.
I already followed the instructions [here[/url:39uzkclb] except the “hp-plugin” part
    Running “hp-plugin” leads to this:

  • I recently worked through an issue where I was getting a similar python syntax error. In /usr/bin there is a symlink named “python” that points to python 3.3. I removed it and made a new one pointed to python 2.7. After that I was able to run the setup.py without the errors. Hopefully this will work for you as well!

  • But I don’t even know if it’s the “hp-plugin” fault :\

Could you explain how to create and remove symlinks? Do they work like shortcuts on windows?

  • This would be a way to determine if it is the hplibs that are causing the issue

    File Manager:

    • Navigate to /usr/bin as root (Nemo- Right click on folder and select “open as root”, Nautilus- Same if you have the as root extension installed, if not launch by Ctl+Alt+F2 & running “gksu nautilus”.)
    • Locate the existing symlink which is labeled “python” & delete it.
    • Right click on Python2.7 and press “make link”
    • Right click on “Link to Python2.7” and rename it to “python”
    • Now try installing the HP libraries!

    Command Line:

    sudo rm /usr/bin/python
    sudo ln -s /usr/bin/python2.7 /usr/bin/python

With any luck this will be an easy fix for you. If not, it rules out the install failure of HPLIBS as the cause of your problem.

  • I guess that worked:

But hp-scan still gives the same error code 9 :\

  • Did you run the setup wizard after you installed the LIBS? Open a terminal and run:

     hp-setup

Follow the prompts and then try to use the scanner again!

If that isnt successful, take a look at this page which lists all the dependencies. You need to ensure they are all installed (I don’t see how they wouldnt be, but better to double check) [http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/manual/distros/other.html][0]">[http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/in][1] … other.html

    The walthorugh of using hp-setup is Step 11 here [http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html][0]">[http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/in][1] … index.html
