    Hi.
I really do not have anything outstanding to contribute here.
I just wanted to write something to publicly thank you for all the effort you put into this project.
    Thank you very much really.

  • Well, I had one issue with Cnchi during installation process where Cnchi did not auto update on its own even after a long time which resulted in lots of failed install attempts.

So, I think if instead of Cnchi auto updating and auto startup, could we have the installer icon on the desktop which the user could click to launch the installer application after which it would update and show the update progress and then continue with install?

This way the installer would be more interactive IMO (could help guys like me fight anxiety during installation 😆 😅 😜

  • @jasondgls
But there already is an icon to start cnchi. Just close the automatically started cnchi, and restart it by clicking the icon.

  • but @jasondgls is right that it would be more easy to understand if there was a process bar and a popup sayin that the installer is updating itself, we have already a notification pops up un upper righ with the info, but per example if you are on a notebook what do not connect automatic (Wifi) there can be a problem…

Did somebody already create an issue about faster mirror ranking? I believe that could make installing a bit better…

This is also a problem on an already installed system, since e.g. pamac doesn’t recognize that the internet connection is missing…

  • @jasondgls @joekamprad

Sorry, I read your post too hastily.
Yes, I agree that cnchi need not start automatically. E.g. a clear cnchi starter icon on the desktop (clearly explaining itself) would be better as I think of it.
But does Gnome allow icons on the desktop?

And instead of cnchi autostarting, the mirror ranking process should autostart right at the beginning…

    Nope, it does not.

The process that updates cnchi is a simple shell script that has nothing to do with cnchi (it uses pacman to update cnchi).

We could add some meesage (gui) in the script (using zenity, for instance).

  • Hi @manuel,
What I really wanted to say was that: I didn’t had the problem with cnchi autostarting My issue was that Cnchi didnot auto update due to which I had crashed install attempts. Therefore to avoid this I had to manually update Cnchi and then restart the Cnchi from the dock to successfully install the OS.

So What I really meant to say was that let there be an Installer Icon On the desktop or the dock (wherever possible). and when the user clicks it, let it start the mirror autoranking and then it could start the update process and then continue with the installation process and show the user the entire progress on every step so that the user could detect if there is any issue with the mirror ranking, Auto update and so on…

Sorry If I wasn’t clear at first as English is not my first language. but I’ve gotta admit guys. You’ve really done a wonderful job. For you guys a Linux noob like me could install and use an Arch based system. Kudos to you guys!

  • installation should not start >>if<< cnchi do not update itself and pops up with a message to close it and restart it, and to make sure internet is connected…

  • i use f2fs file system for my computers with ssd disck and ssd disc they are not big 😕 under Cnchi when i what install antergos with f2fs i must create 3 partition:

    /boot ext4
    /boot/efi fat32
    / f2fs

but i know that grub2 was already patched for f2fs and now i dont need /boot partition. under manjaro in calamares i can easy create only two partiton:

    /boot/efi fat32
    / f2fs

and system boot without any errors. i save at least 256mb when i dont need unnecessary /boot partition.

  • sorry i cant edit my post some connection error
so i found that grub2 was patched in april 2018.

    https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=GRUB-Now-Supports-F2FS

so if you can fix this in Cnchi partition setup i will be very glad 😉

  • @joksik is advanced partook not allowing to install if you do not create /boot with ext4 if you choose E2FS ?
That should be easy to change

  • Do you think not having a separate /boot partition would cause problems in LUKS setup?

i dont remember exactly where was the problem. but if you release a new Cnchi version i will test on vm if all works good with f2fs

yes sure, but @joksik do not talk about such 😉

  • yes i dont use encrypted volume. i dont know like now but in past when i encrypt my hard drive it`s slow down my pc so i dont use this feature

  • @joekamprad
No, but I meant that as a general question, not an answer to another… 🙂

So in other words, does using LUKS require using a separate /boot partition, and if so, does it need to be unencrypted?

I’m not very familiar with using LUKS, that’s why I ask. Although I do have an encrypted Antergos install (that cnchi made for me) that I use actively…
